A Biography: Larry LeGrande, The Last Member of the Satchel Paige All-Stars
Larry and Jackie
Larry had the privilege of meeting Jackie Robinson at the 1958 Summer Classic! Conversing with Jackie in the dugout that day, Jackie told Larry "We would eventually win". Larry knew that wasn't about winning the game they were about to play. Love the bits of history Larry has given us. What a privilege we've been given to tell this story.
Larry and the HOF
What an amazing honor to have Larry's story, "I Found Someone to Play With" be accepted into the Cooperstown HOF archive library! So glad we pursued this and have his story saved for posterity.
Larry and Stan
Amazingly we tracked down Larry's coach from the New York Yankees Single A Baseball team from 1960, the St. Petersburg Saints. Stan Charnofsky provided a quote on the back of the book!!!
Larry and Satch
Shooting a rifle in the basement of Satchel Paige's home has got to be one of the most hilarious stories featured in the book that Larry shared. Ricochets everywhere and still alive to tell us!!!
Larry and Goose
A random chance meeting of "Butter" Lewis and "Goose" on a sidewalk in front of a diner in Roanoke, VA, propelled Larry's Negro League baseball career and eventual play with Satchel Paige, the Kansas City Monarchs in 1959 and the Satchel Paige All-Stars in the early 60's!!!
